"Haoshi Chengshuang"
- Chinese Proverb, "Everything good comes in pairs."
Erica Jefferson has been creating art for 40+ years. In 2002, she graduated with honors from Ringling College of Art in Sarasota, FL with a BFA degree in Illustration. Shortly after graduating Erica moved to NYC and began a long career working in fashion for well-known brands such as Target, Walmart, Sears and TJ Maxx. Her work has won several awards and has appeared in multiple publications. Erica is also the niece of an American Water Color Society Signature Member, Jan Ledbetter.
Blue Foo by Erica is inspired by the culmination of her time spent in southern Florida. In 2013 she moved to Captiva Island where she discovered the beautiful world of chinoiserie, tassels, and resort inspired living. She started Blue Foo Design, a stationery line that was featured on blogs as well as on the morning show Good Day Philly's perfect "Galentines Day" gift segment. Shortly after, Erica took up a hobby of tropical treasure hunting and was fortunate to scour vintage furniture shops and antique stores in places like Naples and West Palm Beach. Her collection led her to start Blue Foo Vintage where she sold "Palm Beach Chic" vintage furniture and collectibles. During this time she discovered Staffordshire Dogs and fell in love. They offered endless artistic inpiration and were extra special to her because they always came in a pair. "Good Things Come in Pairs" (haoshi chengshuang), is an old Chinese proverb and philosophical principle that when the forces of yin and yang—or male and female—are in balance, harmony and order are achieved. This is why these dogs remain the focal point of her art to this day and she only hopes that her art can bring some balance and harmony into your life too.
Erica now splits her time between NJ and Captiva. She lives with her wonderful husband, three beautiful children and two labs who are not Staffordshire dogs but are just as cute.
